The most important thing is that spending time in nature can help you ditch your self-doubt and confidently move forward on your path.

Well, consider how with every challenge there is:
- a threat
- a need to protect and take action
- a triumph
And with each stage of a challenge there is an emotion that can help you through that stage. With each stage of a challenge there is an emotion that can help you through that stage. Click To Tweet
Sympathy helps you through hardship.
Grief helps you through loss.
Fear helps you to respond to a threat.
Anger helps you to protect your values and take action.
Happiness helps you to celebrate a triumph.
According to Classical 5 Element Chinese Medicine, each of these emotions correspond with the 5 elements in nature.
Earth – Sympathy
Metal/Air – Grief
Water – Fear
Wood – Anger
Fire – Happiness
These natural emotions are here to help us to overcome our challenges and to live our best life.
However, your cognitive Ego Mind judges some of these natural emotions as ‘bad’ (particularly grief, fear and anger), making you want to avoid/suppress them.
And so instead of letting yourself feel your natural and helpful emotions so you can move forward, self-doubt sets in.
You being to feel like there’s something wrong with you for having a challenge and it’s associated emotions.
These judgments give rise to judgmental states.
(Judgmental states aren’t true emotions. They are tainted by judgment.)
Sympathy vs. Pity/Shame
If you are going through something hard, the natural thing to feel would be sympathy.
When you feel sympathy, you are not judging yourself as good or bad. You are simply acknowledging that something is difficult in your life, knowing that this doesn’t make you less capable than anybody else.
However, judgments can make you feel inadequate for having a challenge. This can make you feel less capable than others and judgmental states of pity or shame can appear.
Grief vs. Unworthiness
When you lose something you value, the natural thing to feel would be grief.
However, judgments can make you feel like if you’ve lost something, you’re a ‘loser’. This makes you feel unworthy.
Fear vs. Self-Doubt
When you are threatened, the natural thing to feel would be fear.
However, with the Ego mind constantly judging and feeling threatened, it needs to control everything (including emotions) in order to feel safe. This causes states of self-doubt, overwhelm, perfectionism, etc. to take over.
Anger vs. Blame/Aggression
When you need to set your boundaries, it’s natural to express anger without blame and aggression. You are not saying that anybody else is wrong. You’re just letting them know what you will and will not stand for.
However, when the Ego mind starts judging things as ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ the judgmental states of blame and aggression show up.
Happiness vs. Addiction to Pleasure States
And finally, when you are feeling connected and have something to celebrate, it’s natural to feel happiness.
However, judging happiness as good makes you want to hold onto it forever. This can cause you to feel like there’s something wrong with you when the happiness inevitably goes away. Wanting to always experience happiness and avoid the other emotions gives rise to addictive behaviors.
