For some reason the idea of crocheting animals delighted me.
So I finally made it an intention to do so.
The last time I crocheted was when a friend tried to teach me several years ago.
I was not very good at it. I just didn’t get it.
With my friend’s guidance, I did manage to produce a dishcloth but unfortunately I used the wrong kind of yarn. It was made of a water resistant material which doesn’t make for a very effective dishcloth, lol.
But still, the idea of crocheting animals didn’t leave me.
So last Christmas, I decided to give it another try.
I went to the library and got out a few books on the subject. (Crochet a Zoo by Megan Kreiner and Happy Gurumi by Vanessa Chan)
I decided on an elephant for my 3 year old niece.
And a whale for my 7 year old nephew.
The process was really fun.
What I enjoyed most was feeling care for the actual animal out there in the wild while I crocheted.
And then imagining my niece and nephew playing with the toys and also connecting with the animal within themselves.
I imagine the same kind of feeling happens to artists who draw, paint, sculpt, write about, and photograph wildlife.
Their time connecting with the animal as they create is sacred.
And that intention then ripples out to touch others who witness the art.
Thank you to all of the artists who help remind us that we share the world with other such amazing beings.
Who is your favorite wildlife artist? Please share. I’d love to check out their work.
